First and foremost, she made the call and had the conversation. The contrast between Hillary, who took the time to talk to a small group of bloggers with readership from C list upwards, and Obama, who doesn’t read blogs, is instructive.

Second, I’m didn’t pick up a graceful withdrawal subtext. At all.

Third, Hillary talked several times about the “arguments” that we bloggers make, and how useful they are — which is why I, as an old-school blogger, like to think the blogosphere is all about; the clash of ideas in the agora or public square. Of course, that could be flattery, but isn’t it nice to be flattered for making an appeal to reason?

1. “It’s the map, not the math”. Meaning that the only metric that the SDs should consider — and I know this will seem almost childishly simple-minded — is the metric that will lead to victory in the fall. The popular vote conveys a degree of legitimacy, and here she has pulled into a slight lead (50K), but only the electoral college really matters: Here, Hillary has 300 EVs, Obama only 217. “I have a cushion.” “I will, he could.” And I’m seduced not just by the logic — I suspect that Hillary’s demographic, like me, does not have an apetite for risk, these days — but by the framing. Whoever framed “It’s the map, not the math” has a job waiting for them in the blogosphere when the campaign is over!

2. The Hillary campaign is totally committed to seating FL and MI. It’s “inexplicable” [Oh, really?] that the party has not figured out a way to enfranchise these voters.

3. The more the media tries to dictate the anti-Hillary narrative, and tries to make the Presidential pick itself, “the more resistant” people become. “It’s a very sore spot.” See the ad in USA Today: “Not so fast!”

4. OR TV station sets up a Town Hall, offers Hillary half an hour, Obama half an hour. Obama declines. So she’ll take the whole hour!

Hillary notes the “vitriol” thrown around at herself, Clinton bloggers and her supporters. She calls it a perverse form of flattery. Hillary says the most insistent the media is in pushing her out, the more upset her suppporters get.

Zuzu: It’s especially crucial that the party and the Obama campaign acknowledge that. Because if the comments to Kate’s post are any indication, there are a whole lot of women who are fed up with the party’s silence in the face of the onslaught of misogyny against Clinton, so fed up they’re seriously considering leaving the party, or not voting, or voting for someone else — and they’re not going to get in line unless this is reckoned with instead of just swept under the rug. I have no doubt that she’s in this thing through to the convention. She understands that nothing’s set in stone until the votes are cast on the convention floor, and a LOT can happen between now and Denver. She now has the lead and she’ll finish the primaries with a lead in the popular vote.

The delegates from Florida and Michigan will be seated (hopefully at full strength). There’s no way Dean will convene a Democratic Party convention with only 48 states represented, especially after making a huge effort to push his 50-state strategy. She’ll make her case to the superdelegates out there that she’s our strongest candidate going up against McCain in the general election, and I’m convinced she’ll win them over on that point. And we’ll all meet up in Denver in August.

texasdarlin: Hillary Democrats to the Floor!

In the absence of a rational explanation for this abuse, millions of women (and men too) are fuming because, frankly, it reeks of good ole fashioned back-slapping sexism. I’m not alone in wondering out loud whether a man in Clinton’s position — that is, a serious contender for the presidential nomination who has won swing states (most recently by 41%) and built a formidable coalition needed to win the White House — would be taunted, ridiculed, and treated like an outcast.

As a woman who has been on the receiving end of double standards, and one who happens to believe that Hillary Clinton will be the best President of my lifetime, I want to urge Senator Clinton to take her campaign all the way to the convention floor. By earning more than half the votes cast, she has every right to make her case directly to party representatives in the proper venue, and even a responsibility to the voters.

AND THAT SEN. CLINTON RECEIVES 100% OF HER PLEDGED DELEGATES FROM THESE STATES.

The Clinton campaign has a link to send the DNC an e-mail about MI/FL prior to the rules committee meeting on May 31st.  Here’s the text of what I sent (I hope I got all the details right):

I would like Sen. Clinton and Sen. Obama to have the delegates from FL seated at 100% based on the January results.  Dem voters should not be penalized for GOP changes to the primary, and neither candidate campaigned there - though both benefited from national advertising.

I think this should be non-negotiable for FL.

Now that Obama has Edwards’ support, perhaps he should receive a portion of MI’s delegates based on that endorsement.  I’m not exactly sure how to award Obama in MI, since his campaign made the choice to remove his name from the ballot, which was one viable, strategic decision.  Clinton’s choice to stay on the ballot was another legitimate strategy.  Sen. Clinton should receive 100% of her pledged delegates from MI, without exception.  I t think Sen. Obama and Clinton should split the delegates that reflect the votes that went to Gravelle, Dodd and Kucinich, if that’s allowed.  I guess you could award Obama delegates for all the uncommitted votes, but do not TAKE ANY AWAY from Sen. Clinton.  That is grossly unfair, given both campaigns took a gamble on this outcome.  Obama has stonewalled revotes; he should not now receive some of Sen. Clinton’s delegates as a reward for obstructing the democratic process after he didn’t like the MI outcome.  I don’t support his 48-state strategy, and neither should the DNC.

Since July 2007, I have made 11 contributions ranging from $10 to $100, for a total of $530.  (That’s an average of $48 each time.)  I volunteered in MA prior to Super Tuesday, made calls to voters in Sheboygan Falls, WI, and traveled to San Antonio to volunteer for the TX primaries/caucuses.
