Outrage!

Linda Hirshman, feminist and political writer extraordinare, was cut from TPM essentially because of her support for Senator Clinton. She published her email exchange with TPM at Taylor Marsh. Money quote: “For now, like I said, we’re focusing on getting our long-standing regulars and folks covering things we don’t on the blog. I recognize that you think female voters should be one of those things, we disagree.”

As someone who doesn’t always agree with Linda Hirshman, but has long been enlightened and challenged by her writing, I am deeply offended that she was treated in such a manner, and as a fellow Clinton supporter, there but for the grace of God.

One Response to “Outrage!”

  1. Oh I’m glad you linked to this outrageous story.

Riverdaughter has more on this topic, and I found this remark in the comment threads to be intriguing; from DaleA:

“The left wing blogs have generally not been very comfortable for gays and lesbians for quite a while. McClurkin was when it first came into the open. But for quite a while there had been straight male bloggers telling us what was and was not important for gays. They would bring up DADT and DOMA whenever Hillary’s name came up. This had been going on for a long time. And they were quite puzzled when told that DADT was an improvement and that DOMA was not avoidable.

FWIW, my experience has been that a really accurate gauge of how men understand feminism is their reaction to gay men. This is where the left guy is most likely to stumble.

After their success in pushing gays and lesbians to the side they moved on to their next target.”
